You need to post what program and which version number. Some program make a registry entry and place the registered name there. you can run regedit, and then search using part or all of the registered name. When you find it, use the edit command to change the registered name to your. Other programs put the registered name in an *.ini file in the Windows directory or the main program itself. Check to see if your program has an *.ini file in the C:\windows directory. Lastly, some programs, like Aldus PageMaker 4, encode the user name inside the program itself. Make a backup copy of the program, then run the old write.exe program from Win3.x and click the no conversion tab. Then search for part or all of the registered name and change it to yours, making sure you take up exactly the same number of spaces as the original (else the program won't work that's why you need a backup).
Again, posting the name of the program would make answering your question a lot easier.

Sorry, i'm not much help. I never used Works 2. However, I just looked her over and there is a "user" section in the setup file, wword20.inf which appears to contain an encrypted name. You can back up the file and play around wiht the "user" section and see what happens if you reinstall. Also, Works2 does create an *.ini file so take a look at it in your Windows directory to see if it has a user name in it. Sorry I can't be of more help.

What would happen if you simply renamed the *.ini file with the registered user in it? Wouldn't it have to go through the steps to create a new one - namely asking who you are, etc?

I lost the web address but do a search on the file "Cain.exe". You will then rename any user you want, rename any licence you want and much more. Be carefull using it.

You can always run Norton Utilities and 'Search' for existing name and change it!
