I am soliciting text editor recommendations. I am currently using notGNU 1.93, but it has the annoying habit of autosaving the buffer every two seconds. I prefer something of the public domain or freeware variety to use to write code and long ASCII rants. Please help. Thanks in advance.

This is a really nice editor written by a guy from Korea. It is customizable for many different programming languages or just as a text editor. A free download with support on Yahoo. However this editor does require Windows, not a DOS program.

Well, I like using DOS Edit from Win9x. It's self contained (unlike the 6.22 version), allows control characters (such as escape) and has a second window feature. Shouldn't be hard to find ;)

I prefer WinVi. it is very similar to Vi on a *NIX system, with the exception of no character mapping. You can get it here.

I like EDIT, but that thing you said about rants is a problem. You can't print from it on most printers, and what you put in the Windows buffer to paste often comes out with strange characters included.
