I am soliciting text editor recommendations. I am currently using notGNU 1.93, but it has the annoying habit of autosaving the buffer every two seconds. I prefer something of the public domain or freeware variety to use to write code and long ASCII rants. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Check out the freeware editor at this site:

This is a really nice editor written by a guy from Korea. It is customizable for many different programming languages or just as a text editor. A free download with support on Yahoo. However this editor does require Windows, not a DOS program.

Well, I like using DOS Edit from Win9x. It's self contained (unlike the 6.22 version), allows control characters (such as escape) and has a second window feature. Shouldn't be hard to find ;)

Yes,EDIT from MS-DOS 7.x(Win9x) can edit binary files too.

I prefer WinVi. it is very similar to Vi on a *NIX system, with the exception of no character mapping. You can get it here.

I like EDIT, but that thing you said about rants is a problem. You can't print from it on most printers, and what you put in the Windows buffer to paste often comes out with strange characters included.
