HI,
I've got a problem where my system is not recognising the fact that the CD rom drive is attached to the computer. When I try to install a generic driver, an error message comes up on the screen saying that there is no ATAPI cd rom drive attached to the computer, and that I should attach one. The drive is attached correctly and all connections are fine. This first happened because I was having difficulty with my CDRW and the HP Tech support suggested that it may be the Bus Master Driver that was not compatible with my CDRW. I found a driver file on the net that was "supposed" to cure the problem, but when I installed it, I got an error saying something like "The registry was corrupted" or something, and that I should reboot the machine. I re-booted, but when I went looking for the CDRW in "MY COMPUTER" it was gone, and so was the other cd rom drive.
Does anyone have any suggestions? It's a self built computer, with a Pentuim 200Mhz processor, a DVD and CDRW drives, two hard drives, and a floppy. It's got 96megs of ram, and was running on a Windows '98 update, but I've formatted teh C drive in an effort to correct this, but it's not working. The motherboard is a TYAN Titan Turbo s1573s ATX-2.Any help would be VERY much appreciated!!
Thanks.

Find out who has made the drive, and what model, go to the manufacturers web site and search for drivers for that model. Haven't you dried that yet?

No I have not tried that, because in the past I have used this generic driver for my DVD drive, and it worked perfectly.
