I have a 486 computer that when you try to boot it up is says NO ROM BASIC SYSTEM HALTED Do I need to go to setup adn auto detect hard drive and then put in an boot disk and format.com and then load the system software? Please send specifics. Thanks JL

Hi,
You not said if this computer worked before. This kind of error usually caused by missing both hadr drive and floppy drive. If your are sure you have hard drive installed then enter CMOS setup, autodetect hard drive, and set proper type of floppy drive. Now try to reboot. If you still fail then boot with floppy, run FDISK and create partition(s) on your drive. Then format it with FORMAT C: /S command.
