4.10.2222 is NOT the DOS version! It's the version of Windows, that is, Windows 4.1 (98SE) GUI!

Hi Samantha. XP does not have Dos just a Dos emulator. Go to http://www.ss64.com/nt/ and you will find a list of commands which are supposed to work in Win.NT. I don't think there is an Undelete command so maybe you will or will not find what you want.

Good luck

If you pop in the XP CD you have an option to undertake a repair install of XP. There is no true M$DOS in XP that is why it has this option during the installation/setup.

As <Wengier> points out 4.10.2222 is Windows 98se internal version. Windows XP SP1 is 6.0.2800.1106 making it NT 6 (Sub Numbers Differ by country)

Since XP is NT based it only has emulated DOS that cannot be accessed at startup, like earlier versions did, and if you have a NTFS harddrive instead of FAT32 you cannot access it via a Win98 Bootdisk!

I think <x86> has the best recommendation for you.

Well said Mick C, even NT4 CD are bootable to undertake repair.

Maybe we should recommend installing XP on 4GB FAT16 partitions, that would be as bad as NTFS for DOS!

I do not know about FAT16 but XP can be installed onto a FAT32 partition with very little change in performance!

However I do have a MS-DOS 7.10 Bootdisk with NTFS reader on my Bootdisk Project Page. Also the Caldera OEM DR-DOS 7.05 Bootdisk can access NTFS drives as well! As it was designed for use with a recovery disk.

There is 4GB FAT16, which can only be recognized by WinNT or so, not any version of MS-DOS. However, I don't think anyone is actually using this kind of FAT16 partition.
