The last time I partitioned my notebook (Toshiba Libretto), the OS can't be access. Message appeared said NTKRNL.exe is corrupt, so I tried to re-install the OS. But my external usb cdrom can't be detected.

I tried madmaxusb tips on USB 2.0 driver for DOS. I follow the instruction, like add a line in the config.sys and using the duse sofware. But when i startup the computer with the cdrom support (Using a Win98 startup disk), i got a message like this one :

VID057B_PID0000 FS
VID04BB_PID0201 FS
ID:0 LUN:0 = DVD/CDRW RW9120 1.36

The following file is missing or corrupted: RAMFD.SYS
There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 33

The following file is missing or corrupted: COMMAND.COM
Type the name of the Command Interpreter (e.g., C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.COM)

You need a minimal boot disk, I use the one created within XP which is basically system files and a keyboard driver. Also download the CD driver MSCDEX from:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/dos622/Utility/2.23/DOS/EN-US/Mscdx223.exe

The first two lines of my config.sys would read when using Panasonic drivers:

device=usbaspi.sys /v
device=usbcd.sys /d:usbcdoo1

The last line of my autoexec.bat would read:

mscdex.exe /d:usbcd001

This would then install the CD (fingers crossed) and assign a drive letter.

Links to USB DOS drivers:

www.mwpms.uklinux.net

Also the following article though XP applies to W2K:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307848

Good luck
