You need the SoundBlaster Live! SB16 emulation driver for DOS. The site I found it on no longer exists, but I'm sure it can be found someplace else. It's about 5mb if I remember correctly. It should also tell what lines to put in your autoexec.bat and config.sys files.

SB16 emulation also works in Win9x/ME so most games will run just fine in Windows.

Yes, that's it exactly. It tells how to make the boot disk, but you can copy the files to your DOS directory instead and make the appropriate changes to your autoexec.bat and config.sys files. Also be sure to edit ctsyn.ini to point to your default.ecw file. I think the page tells how to do all of this.

Good luck

Hi, I'm not an expert at doing all this, and am having some trouble. When trying to start the Sb16init it says emm386 file drivers aren't installed. It would be really helpful if someone could email or post with an easy to understand way of getting all this to work. My understanding of creating bootdisks is pretty limited. Thanks!!

Emm386.exe is a DOS program to initialize your EMS memory.. this memory is essential to get sb16init to work.

First locate where your emm386.exe is!

I'll put 2 exemple of an config.sys and autoexec.bat file!

CONFIG.SYS

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.exe RAM HIGHSCAN
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\GSCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD000

**Note: RAM, HIGHSCAN and DOS=HIGH,UMB is used to optimise your memory setting

AUTOEXEC.BAT

@ECHO OFF
SET CTSYN=C:\SBLIVE
SET BLASTER= A220 I5 D1 H5
LH C:\SBLIVE\SBEINIT.COM
LH C:\MOUSE\GMOUSE.COM
LH C:\CDROM\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD000

**Note: LH is also used to optimize conventional memory!

Now all you have to do is to correct your directory setting and file name.. but it should look like this..

That's it!

Any idea what I can do ?

Hi i'm just wondering if anyone can help me here.. I have the SB16 emu software and all, but I am using windows XP and the ctsyn.ini file doesnt exist anywhere..

(I have created a seperate fat32 partition for the DOS game i want to run - privateer)

All i need is the lines in that ctsyn.ini file so i can reconstruct it myself.

Thanks!~

MS-DOS won't read or run on any other partition type than FAT. FAT32 or NTFS are not supported.
