As a lot of people in this forum, I can't get sound under dos with built in ac'97 (don't know the exact chipset).
my computer is a 5600D laptop from www.clevo.com.tw
the research I made puts me before 2 options:
*emulate dos under win 98se/xp/linux
*buy an ibm 3d pcmcia sound cardthe first option doesn't lead me anywhere as I tested vmware and dosemu. If you know another good emu, just tell me.
I found the second one by stepping upon a review of pcmcia sound cards, but I don't know where to buy one as the review is from 1996/97, and it seems this kind of product has completly disappeared. So if a good soul could help me, I'd be very happy.

For the first option:
Another emulation option it Virtual PC from connectix at www.connectix.com its not a DOS EMU but a PC EMU that you can install any OS you wish and run it on top of any OS, but its pricy ($299 last time I checked) and the quality of emulation all depends on the system. You can dload a 50 day trial version from the site. For the second option you can buy a lot of legacy parts fairly cheap at www.hitechcafe.com, you may not find that exact card but you still may find one that suits your needs.
Good Luck!

It seems that all the dos/pc emulators i've found, except dosbox, support only little sound blaster use (i.e. SET BLASTER in autoexec.bat). On the other side, Dosbox doesn't support "protected mode", which seems twice as hard for the dosbox creator to develop than for the vpc/vm engineers to emulate a good sound blaster. So I think I won't see an emu that does both things before a while...
By the way, my ac97 chipset is a Realtek alc201 and I'm still looking for a sound blaster compatible pcmcia sound card.
