Comment:
I need a small (preferibly text) DOS browser. It needs to meet these requirments......
*needs to run on an 8088 at 4.77Mhz with 640K RAM *needs to be able to run off a 720K diskette *needs to be able to connect via LAN with a NIC *needs to be able to run on a CGA monitor
I have actually gotten my XT online using this FTP program, I didnt even know my NIC worked in a 8-bit slot.

720KB is not a problem for the *lite* version of Lynx. Just the following files should be OK for Lynx Lite:
LYNX.EXE LYNX.CFG WATTCP.CFG

The size of LYNX.exe is about 700KB after compression. And the size of LYNX.CFG and WATTCP.CFG are much smaller than LYNX.exe and can be modified easily. So it just fits on a 720KB floppy disk.

IBMWarpster,
You used a different (wrong) one in Response #7, so what's why you got that error message. Try the one I uploaded in Response #9 instead (have you tried that one yet?).
Lynx.cfg is 20-80KB by default. However, over 90% of its contents are comments (starting with the symbol "#"), which can be removed easily.

So, are the files LYNX.CFG and WATTCP.CFG in the same path as LYNX.EXE? And is the correct packet driver loaded? If not, Lynx won't run, of course!
I have tested it a couple of times and have confirmed this would work if you run it CORRECTLY!!

IBMWarpster,
It looks like you are very unfamiliar with all these things. OK, to make things simpler for you, just make the file lynx.cfg 0 byte (but don't delete it!). I have tested this too and it works on my system. However, for an ancient system, perhaps Lynx won't work. I have never had such an old machine before.

You know of any other DOS text browser that fits on a 720K diskette and will run off LAN with a packet driver?

"run off LAN with a packet driver"
In fact, generally you can't run off LAN with a packet driver at all. The correct MLID/ODI or NDIS driver rather than the packet driver is required to "run off LAN".

"So, BobCat will run off an Ethernet Connection?"
Yes, like most other Internet programs for DOS, it will, via the packet driver interface.
