i need share.exe. i'm trying to install a bbs program (mystic)on a stripped down msdos 7.xx (without win98se). i know there is no share.exe with win9x, but i have to use msdos 7.xx to get fat32. i don't want drdos. i don't want to load setver.exe either. putting a 0 byte named setver.exe in root does not work. i really need setver.exe. any other solutions? thanks!

Is it a program from Pinnacle Software? It probably HAS to run in DOS in any case. You have to run share.exe because you can shell to dos from it and it does multi tasking things. If there is no share in your operating system you are going to have to use setver.exe and share exe from some other version of dos. You put DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SETVER.exe in the config.sys. Then, you put the SHARE.exe file on C:\. Say it is from MS-DOS 6.0 for example. You go to C:\Windows. In that directory you enter SETVER SHARE.exe 6.0. It will enter this in a table, and share.exe will not get a "wrong dos version" error message then. Mow you put INSTALL=C:\SHARE.exe on a line under Setver.exe in the config.sys, and that should be it.

to install microsoft works you actualy don't need share.exe.You only have to cheet de system as I did today .I created a empty textfile with notepad and saved it as share.exe in c:\windows\ .When you look, after have don this, on that location you will see a programfile named share.exe size 0KB now you can install Works.this because Windows 95 and higher doesn't support Share.exe. succes
