Your question is somewhat vague - more importantly, it's posted in the wrong forum.

There is no "DOS" in XP

XP Command Reference

It turns out that flimflam reacts just like x86 in January...

MikeRowdy: You'd better post the question in the correct forum for your question, not in an off-topic forum like this forum.

Yes.. eerily so.

I'm not unsympathetic, but after a point it all begins to sound both strident and petulant.

Question reposted in XP.

Yes we have been here before. I tried it the other way - Ignore wrong posts, tell people to re-post or mark as ofensive. It did not work then and it will not work now.

Come on guys we are here to help. See beyond the ignorance of some of the posters. Tell them they are wrong and advice them or if you like just ignore them.

But I am sorry to say the problem is not going to stop!

Yes we have been here before with X86, and the only solution is to rename "PRE 1995 DOS" ................ anybody using DOS later versions would probably be aware of why the forum title was changed..........

DOS aware responders seem to be getting less and less, maybe it is from sheer frustration ??

I think it's more a case of age more than anything - it's gotten pretty quiet here and in Win31 - even the 'Win9x' forum is noticeably slower - meanwhile XP is going strong (which stands to reason).

More and more, the older OS's, GUI's and hardware have become the realm of the hobbyist, the third world, or the very young who've inherited legacy machines (occasionally we'll get a post wrt to emulation from the curious)

I've got no problem answering DOS7xx questions (to the best of my ability, anyways) as long as it doesn't blossom into some complicated ftp or login batch (which likely belongs in Programming or Networking anyways) - but the 'basics' are about the same. Chances are though, that there's an equally valid 'Windows' solution to the problem.

Also, there are other 'flavours' of DOS either still under development, or developed after '95 - are we to disregard those?

"Yes we have been here before with X86, and the only solution is to rename "PRE 1995 DOS""

Oh No No No! This is not a "solution" at all. What do you mean by "PRE 1995 DOS Forum"? There are a lot of new versions of DOS released or developped after Year 1995, so we have to post these questions regarding newer versions of DOS in another forum named "POST 1995 DOS Forum" or so? Also, if someone really thinks WinNT is DOS, and since NT 3.5 (or earlier) was released before 1995, then he/she should ask NT 3.5 Console questions in "PRE 1995 DOS Forum"??? It's so funny, isn't it?

Therefore, the name "PRE 1995 DOS Forum" is not unacceptable at all. Other names such as "True DOS Forum" and even "Standalone DOS Forum" are much better then "PRE xxxx DOS Forum". "True DOS question" means the question must be really a DOS question, no matter what version or type of the DOS is. For instance, the DOS batches in "DOS6xx" and "DOS7xx" are basically the same. A question is a DOS question as long as the program or batch mentioned works in PURE DOS (whichever DOS version), not only in other OSes such as NT+. NT and DOS are completely different OSes, and NT programs or batches are generally incompatible with DOS, so these NT questions should NOT be posted in the DOS forum, as the warning messages of this forum say.

And for Win9x, we know that it's based on something called "Win9x DOS" or "WinDOS". Although unlike DOS 7.1 and earlier DOS versions, it's not a standalone version of DOS, it's still a special type of true DOS, so a Win9x DOS question would be fine in the DOS forum.

Whatever you call it will not solve the problem. If the poster thinks DOS is DOS then he will post regardless of name! How many times have we seen:

Not sure if this is the right place, but ....

and that I feel is what you will get.

I say continue to remind posters its the wrong forum.

Answer the query or not as you feel fit.

Or Redirect inappropriate posts to correct forum.

And live with it!
