Hello,
I have got an old laptop with Dos 5.0 and a floppy for 720 K disks, so I cannot install a newer Dos. I have got a cable to connect two computers (other is a Pentium with Windows 95, so strong and new enough for this) over printer port, but I don't have any programs to establish a connection. Does anybody know, what programs are useful and where I can get them.
Any help is very appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Stefan

i had the same problem with u,since i had no external cdrom and i would install win95,on my old 486 laptop, the only u need is to download the Laplink program from the internet, save iti in a floppy and install it,in both computers. After u run the program in both computers(pentium with win95 must run under dos..)the computers detect each other and easy to transfer files between.
If u have enough hard disk space on laptop,u can copy all the windows 95 instaltion disk,in to laptops harddrive and after install eve windows 95..
But the only problem is u have to order the serial cable from the laplink..because not all the serial cables are working.
search the internet for a trial version "laplink for dos"..

Try LapLink3 for DOS which is available on my web page. It will fit on a 720k diskette.
If you don't like LapLink3, try FastLynx, it is very popular for data transfer.

Data Transfer cables are available at any good computer store. Ensure that they are DATA TRANSFER or NULL MODEM Cables.

I have 5 words for you, "Inter Link and Inter Serv". These two programs make up DOS's equivelent of Laplink, and I might add work great, unlike 9x's Direct Cable Connection. You have to load Interlnk.exe in the config.sys as a device. once that is done, just run intersrv.exe on the machine to function as the server, and then run interlnk on the client and you will get drive mapings. Grab any DOS book, and it will talk about setting up and renaming drive mapings. I think you can even set up a cdrom to be sahred, via adding /l on mscdex.
Email me if you need more help.

NOTE DCC and InterLink & InterServ do not talk to each other, DCC is seporate from IS & IL.

If you look in the dos directory you should see two progrms in there one called intersvr.exe and one called interlnk.exe these programs will do what you waht.
1 create a boot disk with system on it and ad to the config.sys interlnk.exe like this.
device a:\dos\interlnk.exe
2 you can run the intersvr from the see prompt on the other machine.
You will need to make sure you have the correct cable otherwise it will not work. the cable you need is one that connects to the paralel port on each machine if you need any more help email me.
Hope this helps
