OS: dos 7.10
CPU/Ram: 80486
Product: UMC, version 3.1, 3,3 and
Comment:

Hi Guys. I have a UMC mother with a 80486CPU, a AHA1520 SCSI ISA adapter, and 2 disk, one of 2.1 Gb and another of 9.1Gb. The 9.1 Gb is seen by DOS as a 515Mb. Is it because of the 8Gb in IDE system???. In negative, what the cause may be???
Thanks.

Hardly seems likely.

What does the SCSI controller say about it?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Does the SCSI Adaptor have a bootable BIOS ?

Or is it just a plain add-in card ?

The specs here:

http://www.adaptec.com/en-US/suppor...

show it'll see up to an 8 gig. Both the 515 meg and 8 gig limitations sound like IDE but as M2 says, they shouldn't be related.

When you say dos shows 515 meg, is that fdisk? Maybe you just need to repartition it.

Very thanks, I supposed that something like this has been ocurred. M2Go: The SCSI adapter has the original bios in it socket, but doesn´t report the capacity of the disk, only model and manufacturer, the ID and and (in case of HD´s) the adress (80h for master, 81 for the second, etc.). The data I told you is the DOS report trough a simple Dir command and the Checkit 5.0 report. The fdisk I did´t used because the instalation diskettes of DOS7.10 appears to do it himself. Ill try to do it my own.
Best regards.
Osvaldo.

The 8G limit might be coming from dos itself.

No. DOS7.10 hasn´t the 8GB limit. It has about 137Gb. More, the same DOS is installed on a 80GB disk without problems.
Thanks.
Best Regards.
