Hello!
I have an Acer 1120SX 386-machine running DOS 6.22. I recently put a Sound Blaster Awe 64 Pnp card in it and installed the Creative PnP controller. However, when the installation was complete and the installer automatically starts the ctcm.exe file, the machine hangs up. When I restart the machine as the installer instructed me to do if the machine stopped responding, the machine boots normally until it tries to load the controller, when half the screen turns purple, and nothing happens. The sound card is the only card in the machine.

Someone who can help me? Any hint is appreciated.

Check to see if a readme file came with the software. It may give you a hint about changes you can make. Otherwise, if the card has jumpers, you may have to turn off the PnP and do the setup manually.

Mr. Brandal,

Below are the SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS for that card from Creative;

I like to have sound cards in all my computers so for my 386s I usually go down to a nearby computer store and get one of their simpler, used, 16 bit, SB compatible, ISA cards sound cards for $3 to $5. Save your AWE 64 for a 486 or above.

Re:Sound Blaster Awe 64 Pnp.
the reason the puters hangs is that a awe 64,is that runs only on machines that have
have fpu's on them, Eg:486DX and up,
Not cyrix

fpu=floating-point unit
cyrix no floating-point unit
Intel 486SX - a 486DX with its FPU disabled
Intel 486DX - 486SX with a working FPU.
