I'm trying to set up a strictly DOS machine for old games. I've got a Soundblaster AWE 64 PnP ISA card. I have the PnP loader and all the creative drivers. The card works fine in the DIAGNOSE utility and sound and MIDI work. I save the DIAGNOSE settings to autoexec and config.sys. But when I go to play games....no sound. Thanks for any help.

Thanks, that seems like a great site, but didn't solve my problem. I think that boot disk tries to load PCI drivers (says no PCI device found) and this is an ISA card and this is a DOS only machine. My current autoexec and config files find and load the card OK, it's just that most DOS games do not see the card. (It's seems like a few do, but they have sound configuration utilities as part of the setup). Any thoughts?

Hi,

here my configuration of my SB AWE64 Gold for DOS games.
I use the adresses:
Gameport: 201
I/O: 220
MIDI: 330
IRQ: 5
8-bit DMA: 1
16-bit DMA: 5
__________________________________________________________________________

[CONFIG.SYS]
...
DEVICE=C:\AWE64\CTCM.EXE
REM the next two lines are not required for all games
DEVICEHIGH=C:\AWE64\CTSB16.SYS /UNIT=0 /WIN95 /BLASTER=A:220 I:5 D:1 H:5
DEVICEHIGH=C:\AWE64\CTMMSYS.SYS

[AUTOEXEC.BAT for DOS 7.10/Windows 95/98]
...
SET CTCM=C:\AWE64
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6
SET SOUND=C:\AWE64
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0
C:\AWE64\MIXERSET /P /Q
C:\AWE64\AWEUTIL.COM /S

[AUTOEXEC.BAT for DOS 6.22/Windows 3.x]
...
SET CTCM=C:\AWE64
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6
SET SOUND=C:\AWE64
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0
C:\AWE64\MIXERSET /P /Q
C:\AWE64\CTCU /S /W=C:\WINDOWS
C:\AWE64\DIAGNOSE /S /W=C:\WINDOWS
C:\AWE64\AWEUTIL.COM /S
__________________________________________________________________________

"C:\WINDOWS" in the autoexec.bat mean the installation folder of Windows!

"C:\AWE64" is a example for the folder of the AWE64 DOS drivers and tools!
It must contain the following files:
AUXDRV.DRV
AWEUTIL.COM
CTCM.EXE
CTCU.EXE
CTLG.CFG
CTMIDI.DRV
CTMMSYS.SYS
CTPNPSCN.DRV
CTSB16.SYS
DIAGNOSE.EXE
MIXERSET.EXE
(some of the files you can found too in SB16 PNP DOS driver archives)
Start mixerset under DOS to save a configuration file (CTMIX.CFG)
for the (PRESET) mixer settings, to load it at start with "MIXERSET /P /Q"
