Comment: Dual booting w95/dos6.22 to run dos programs more efficiently from dos - but scandisk won't run from c: or c:\dos (says my 6.22 which builder of my pc installed is only beta and scandisk wants full ver) - scandisk runs only from c:\windows\command dir. Seems to do ok, but does it miss anything that way? defrag won't run from my 6.22, doesn't say anything about the beta, just says it must run from win95. In win95, defrag stops after it's done 80-90% and gives me error msg: scrscan.exe file is linked to missing export mcscan32.dll:15 - then defrag starts over and does this over and over. I went to winfiles.com, filefarm.com, and download.com and I can't find any mcscan32.dll (with or without the :15). What do I do? Can I install full version 6.22 over the beta without formatting HDD since win95 is on there? Thanks a bunch!

Reply: (edit)Hi, Though you use dual boot, the hard drive is the same nevertheless, so there is no difference from which of your OS you will perform scanning and defragmenting. Just run Scandisk and Defrag from Win95 when you need to check your HDD. Good luck, Igor M

Reply: (edit)I've tried running scandisk from win95 but it stops and starts over everytime it hits lost clusters or any problem instead of just handling them like dos does, so it'll still be running 12 hours later if I don't stop it! (Besides maybe I'm weird but I like watching scandisk and defrag screens in dos.) Thanks.

Reply: (edit)Hi, It's not just question about liking or disliking. If you have Win95 installed you can destroy your data by running scandisk in DOS session because in DOS session Scandisk can't handle long file names properly. You can set Scandisk to fix error automatically and let it work to the end. If it needs over 12 hours to complete then either it frequently restarts for some reason (some background task working - anti virus for example) or you really have too many errors on your drive. If Scandisk just restarts then try to close all working application. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and terminate all other tasks except of Explorer, Systray and Internat. Good luck, Igor M
