Comment:
I have some files I backed up in the MSDOS 6.22 environment using the MSBACKUP utility. (This was long time back) Now I would like to restore those files and see them in my windows 95/98 system. Is it possible ? What is the detailed procedure.
If you have installed Win95 over DOS6.22, you could do this: Start Win95 on real-DOS-prompt (not the Win-DOS!) Go to C:\DOS and type in "SETUP /E" to install the backup-files correctly. Then you can run the backup on normal Win95. If you don't have installed Win95 over DOS, I don't know if the expanding of all "MSB*"-files of the DOS-disks to the windows folder works withour any errors...

Look for OLDMSDOS Directory on your Win95 CD-ROM It has copy of MS-DOS Backup to use.
Win95 version willnot restore MS-DOS 6.22 Backup Set.

Making restore work is easy... remembering the path name is hard.. In Win 95 or 98, simply place a copy of Restore.exe in the Windows directory after you have expanded it from an old DOS 6.22 install disk or download it from Microsoft. Next, add this line to your config.sys, Device=c:\windows\setver.exe. Then reboot and in a DOS window type Setver c:\windows Restore.exe 6.22 . You must have a space inbetween Windows and Restore. Then reboot again and Restore will work. What I can't figure out is how do you figure out the backup path used so that you can restore it. See Ya, Randy White csc_inc@mindspring.com
