Hi all,
Wonder if someone could help me out with this one, (need to do it from Dos)?
Trying to write a batch file that will (If possible?)semi automate the process of creating a dual boot from an existing system (with a already installed 9x or NT system).
I have found a free program called Gdisk which furnishes commandline functionality that I was hoping to utilize to delete say the 1st primary partition (c:\) then create 2No C:\ partitions one hidden, (& keeping the EXT partitions if poss) 1 not hidden. Install the 1st OS into the not hidden partition then hide it with Gdisk. Then unhide the second partition install the 2nd OS into the second C:\. Then using a boot manager like XOSL (not sure on which partition this program should be installed on, never used it before?). I was hoping to save the 1st OS but I'm very uncertain as to whether Gdisk can do this (AFAIK only partition magic can do this, correct me if I am wrong?).
OR What I am essentially trying to do is chop the primary C:\ Partition up into 2 parts, retaining the 1st OS (Hidden)& install the 2nd OS on the second C:\ all with Gdisk?
I would need enough freespace on the (C:\) primary to do this if indeed possible? Any feed back would be appreciated from any Gdisk users who have tried this or something similair in the past, or at least provide a solution that would be close to it from Dos?
Mucho Regards,
Dave

if gdisk supports it you can resize partition one, create partion two, format partition two, then you would install os number two and(if possible)install boot manager to a floppy, boot from floppy, and run os 1 or 2. all you have to do is put this into a batch file

Hi jz,
Thanks for your reply jz:
if gdisk supports it you can resize partition one...
I suppose this statement is the fundamental question? I cannot remember seeing any switches/syntax that indicates whether an existing primary partition can be re-sized?
Has anyone ever accomplished this?
Regards,
Dave

if you are really able to do this from plain dos then this might help you. it is a dos partitioner capable of resizing partitions and creating them plus all the other standard operations. it is only the freeware version.

Hi Jz again,
I have downloaded Ranish Partition Manager & it is a very capable util, I was hoping to have accomplised the re-sizing with Gdisk but alas it doesn't appear possible to do this.
Another freeware alternative patition resizer from here:
For those who are trying to undertake a similair task. Anyway thanks for your help it is appreciated.
Regards,
Dave
