First of all, I would like to say Hi to everyone at Computing.net. I'm a DOS newbie, and I need some help regarding DOS commands. I need to rename a file in windows/system32 folder. How would I do this from DOS. Remember, I need step by step instructions, because I'm not so talented with DOS.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you could help me with this, it's sooo urgent!!

The XP command interpreter only appears to be DOS - some commands are the same though

ren c:\windows\system32\oldfile.ext newfile.ext

.. is one way - more info here:

XP Command Reference

Generally, it's better to post XP questions in the XP forum.

Bleat at me no longer.

or you can use the MOVE command, which is pretty much the same thing as REN, except you can also put the file in a new place.
