Reply: (edit)Since you posted in the dos forum, the dos command would be (at the C:\> prompt if you mean the root of C:); deltree/y *~1.* This will remove any files with a long filename, ~without~ a confirmation. If you want a confirmation, drop the /y switch.

Reply: (edit)I mean just to remove the long filename entry, not to remove the file, the file still have an 8.3 filename entry on the disk. Simply the Best

Reply: (edit)dosmemory Can't you use REN to rename them? How did you get files with long names? How do they look in DIR? What version of MSDOS? What version of Windows? Nigel

Reply: (edit)Hi everyone, I know Michael (dosmemory) just wants to remove some of the Long File Names (LFN) entries without removing these files on his HD. The DOS version he refers to is MS-DOS 7.10, with native LFN support (Yes, MS-DOS 7.10 Full Version supports LFN directly). I know exactly what Michael is trying to do and have answered his question with solutions in another forum. --------------- Long Live DOS!

Reply: (edit)Ok thanks Wengier. Now we know he got the help he needed. Off topic, is there anything in your site that is in English? All you knowledge makes me very curious of it. Nigel
