Hi!
I've formatted a win98 so to make a clean install of win98 again.
That computer hasn't CDROM reader, so i must do it via network.
I've an overall idea of how to do it, but can anyone explain me step by step? Thanks very much :)

Frankly, not having a cdrom in Whendox98 could be a drag. How you gonna install OTHER software?
However, you can do this.
There are several programs you can use.
There is the pain in the neck MS-DOS interlink-interserver, supplied with later models (6x?) and later of MS-DOS. Or you can find and download "xtlink.com" which is a one-file linking program that came with Xtree Gold. You can find and download laplink3 (ll3.exe) which is available from Mick's powerloads page. Both these programs will run from floppies. Other people here seem to like a program called "file maven." I've never used it, I'm happy with laplink and xtlink.
In the case of both interlin/interserve, and the xtlink.com, both thes programs run "in the background" and give you a dos prompt. The drives of one machine get "added" to the drives of the first. In other words, where you had, say A and C: on your target machine, they become B: and D: on the first machine. You can alos actually load xtlink in dos mode on a windows box--start with F8, boot to C: prompt, load xtlink, and then command "win" and with xtlink running on the extra machine, you'll see that it's drives are now mapped to your Whamox machine in Windoz Exploder--on the machine running windows with the CDROM.
You will need either a serial or parallel so called "null modem" cable, otherwise known as a "direct connection," "laplink" or PCanywhere" cable. You can get these at ANY computer store after you get passed the snot-nosed kid.
When you get one of these programs running, then you can copy your \win98 folder (directory) off your Whinedox98 CD onto the target hdd.
Now, after all that, would it just be simpler to slave the hdd of the target machine into your Whinedos box and copy directly from the CD to hdd?Post back WITH WHAT YOUR EQUIPMENT IS and we can help you more.

Hi, Thanks for your response!
My equipment is a Pentium MMX with 166MHz and 2GB of hard disk. It's connected to a network with another three other better computers, two pcs with winXP/RedHat9 and win200 and one laptop with winXP/RedHat7.3.
The MMX has no cdrom reader, only floppy. It was installed win98 but it runs very slow and my boss told me to format. I formatted it and when going to install win98... surprise! there wasn't cdrom!!! :)
I know i must checked it first, but... So i now have a Pentium MMX with DOS v6.
I've managed to install Microsoft network client for dos so i have the comand "net" more or less correctly configured. If i only could see the other equipments in my network... But i can't, i only see another equipmet on the whole network of my company. I don't know if it's because i installed badly network client or because there's some network incompatibility between dosv6 and winXP/2000.
My configuration of net is:
computer name: VERDI (the same as before formatting)
user name: COMELTA (i didn't know which user it refers, i put a user defined with administrator permissions in one of the others pcs)
workgroup name: GFN (the workgroup of all others computers)
domain name: FIS.USAL.ES (the domain of all the network)when typing net view i received:
The list of servers of this group is no currently availablenet view /workgroup:gfn gives the same response
only net view /workgroup:fis.usal.es let me see another two equipments i cannot fisically access.
It's some problem in my net configuration? it's a problem of compatibility?
Please respond :)
Thanks very much,
Eva

Use a W98SE boot floppy on each PC and run Filemaven from a floppy with a parallel LAPLINK cable in 4 bit mode, copy the CAB files etcetc over then reinstall:
