Comment:
I formated/not on purpose, all I had was a 98 startup disk. I have all the dos 5.0 files, but I can't get the 98 dos off so the sys will recognise dos 5.0.Any help will be great.

You didn't partition you just formatted? If you have installed win98 boot files with FORMAT /S, try FDISK /MBR to remove boot record information and try your installation disks again.

Did you do the FDISK /MBR command from DOS 5? You can use a DOS 5 Boot Floppy to do this.
If you did then try using FDISK from DOS 5 to remove and then recreate the Primary DOS Partition on the HD.
