Reformat my laptop

I have reformated my laptop and it will not recognise the cdrom so that I can reload my software,, My cdrom is connected thru the pcmia any suggestions please
It keeps saying invalid system disc

easy go into dos or windows and install from there (and take disk out a put in when in windows or dos)
