DOS 6.2 has always been Y2K compatible. Question is- Is your motherboard?

One small point. MS-DOS is Y2K compliant upto a point. If you enter date in 2-digit format it may revert to 1900s date range - ALWAYS enter date in 4-digit format i.e. 2000 not 00

On most systems 486 onwards once you have changed date to 2000 once it will maintain that date. The problem with most systems is it will not rollover from 31/12/1999 to 01/01/2000 But reset to 01/01/2000 and you are OK.

P.S. Check Leap Year 2000 as well.

Add-on to above.

Sorry dates are in UK ENGLISH Format

31/12/1999 = 31st December 1999 (12/31/99)

It is possible to extend the date another 50 years. I beleive the current method is to store the date in BCD format, but if it was stored it HEX format it would hold more info.
If the early programmers would have just used a few more bytes the Y2K problem would not have been an issue. In the early days memory was expensive so programs were written to conserve memory. I also adopt the russian attitude that one should wait until the whole thing blows up and then fix it.

Yes I agree with the Russian Idea. Or the English version - If it is not broken , dont fix it...

But as I say above you will find out on the 1st of January 2000 one way or the other. But the basic BIOS/DOS fix is simple.

Consider your problem on 5 levels.
>Simple
1. BIOS
2. Operating System (MS-DOS,Windows ect)
3. Software (Word Processing, Spreedsheets)
4. Data (Saved Files)
5. Sharing Data
(With other Machines, Network)
>Harder

If anything it is going to be level 5 where the major headaches start.

Microsoft MS-DOS - Windows 3.x and the Year 2000
======================================================
The following statement is correct only if
BIOS/CMOS is also Y2K Compliant
======================================================
All Versions of MS-DOS are Y2K Capable - Less the MSBackup Utility.
(Clearly Mark Date on Backup Disk Set to remedy Backup Date Problem)
If you enter all Dates in 4-Digit Format. (Other Software still needs testing)
It is better if you use Version 6.2 or 6.22 on later machines
- But same problems Apply
Microsoft have not issued any MS-DOS Y2K Patchs to date.

Windows 3.0 is not Y2K Compliant becouse of Windows File Manager
Fault. - File Manager Dates beyond 2000 are Corrupted - No Update is available.

Windows 3.1x is Y2K Compliant other than Windows File Manager and MWBackup.
(Same comments as MSBACKUP Apply - Only installed as part of MS-DOS 6.x )
Windows 3.1/3.11 File Manager Updates are Available at:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/W31FILUP.EXE
for Windows 3.1/3.11
or
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/WFWFILUP.EXE
for Windows for Workgroups 3.11

As a matter of interest both Windows 95 and 98 also need Y2K Patchs
to make them Year 2000 Compliant.
Windows 98SE is (So far!)
