Hi,

Win95 always works in protected mode. You can't run Win95 in real mode. In real mode you can run DOS applications only. So I don't clearly understand what you mean. If you need to run something in real mode you can reboot Windows in MS-DOS emulation mode. Or you can press F8 when Windows starts to boot and select DOS Prompt Only option.

Good luck, Igor M

Yes I see. This can results from several reason.

1. It can be virus. Check your system with some virus scan software.

2. It can be real mode driver loaded in Config.sys or Autoexec.bat files. Actually Windows not need those files at all. Try to move those files from root directory of C:\ drive to some other folder and reboot. If compatibility mode disappear, have a look in those files and remove any real mode dos drivers. (Usually compatibility mode results from MSCDEX.exe loaded in Autoexec.bat - remove it at the first place)

3. May be you have wrong driver installed for your IDE controller. Remove IDE controller from Device Manager and reboot. Windows would install new driver for it. If this not help, boot in Safe Mode and try to remove IDE controllers from here. In Safe Mode you can see more then one IDE controller - remove them all. If Windows not recognized IDE controller automaticaly perform New Harware Autodetection

4. If you have CD that came with your motherboard install drivers from it.

Good luck, Igor M
