Proprietary Sony 1x CDROM not working

I am trying to install a Proprietary Sony 1x cdrom & Matching card into a 486. I have 3 486s and in each it does the same thing. It does not find the cdrom. For the sony cdrom it does not find the "SONY001" or it locks up on the "SLCD.SYS" file. The cdrom's green light on the front is on all the time. I can't find any pin jacks for master, slave, etc on the hard drives. Give me a list of what to look for. Both Autoexec and config sys look ok in there listings. Or do I just need a newer (faster)cdrom/controller card. Thanks

It seems to me that it is more that the controller card might be bad than that you need a newer model. Before I tried that I would try to use the OAKCDROM.SYS universal driver in the config.sys instead of the driver you have.

I would double check that the ribbon cable is in the correct socket (if your card has more than one), and that pin 1 is in the correct position on both ends. If you want to try a new copy of the driver (in case you have any doubts about the one you have), leave a note and I'll email it to you.
