Hi,
I have a problem opening a .exe file. It is just under 500mb and is apparently a full windows xp professional file. When I go to open it, DOS opens and quickly says "Program too big to fit in memory" before closing immediately.
My specs should be ok, my PC is 1.7 ghz think, has 512mb RAM, and 80GB Hard disk.
I looked over some other posts saying pretty much the same thing but all help offered hasnt worked with solving my problem.
One thing it may be is that when i right-click the file, and go to properties, and click the memory tab, there is a bit at the bottom that says 'MS-DOS protected-mode (DPMI) memory'. There is a drop down menu which says 'Total' next to it and in the drop down menu is lots of different numbers you can choose. This may be where i can choose how many kilobytes can be opened in DOS or something but i have no clue to be honest. If it is the amount of KBs, it wont let me put a number as high as 500,000. At the moment this section is set to 'Auto' on my machine.
How can I get this copy of XP professional to work? I would be greateful of any input if possible. Thanks guys.
Also: If anyone can help, i hardly know anything about computers so please explain in newbie terms.
Thanks alot in advance guys.

Yea did you download it?
Mine is 1 file which is meant to contain the whole of Windows XP pro. Its about 492mb i think.

I can see you really helped him solve his problem there bud. Regardless of where he got the file, the problem is to big to fit in memeory, not where did you get the file.
