Hi,
My boss wants to connect HP LaserJet Printer (e.g. LaserJet 1150) to our system with an embedded compurer running uned MS DOS 6.22 and print text and graphics from our firmware. Our embedded computer has a standard parallel port LPT1.
The HP LaserJet 1150 has the IEEE 1285 parallel inteface and the USB interface and understand the HP PCL5e control language.
I know there are the MS DOS USB drivers for external CDs, HDs, etc, but it seems they are not suitable for printers/
My questions are:
1. Are there some external ISA I/O boards we may connect to our embedded computer to communicate with the printer via printer's IEEE 1284 or USB? Board drivers must work under MS DOS.
2.If there are no MS DOS IEEE 1284 or USB boards for printers, are there some ISA I/O boards to sens/receive data from IEEE 1284 or USB with MS DOS file interface (I mean OPEN FILE - READ FILE - WRITE FILE - CLOSE FILE)?Thank you in advance
GeoYar

I am not confident with embedded DOS systems, so I ask you
1) Why do not connect the printer directly to the parallel port of your computer; I suppose your system has such device.
That is the straightforward way to connect the printer as DOS supports parallel port natively.2) I suppose the system can run the software to drive the printer, as laser devices are quite unusual for DOS operating system and they are supported via some emulation.
Note that under DOS the printer drivers are part of the specific software application, not being modules of the OS itself.3) There is no problem to print plain ASCII text otherwise.
If you need more support, post again specifying better your environment.
