I brought a dos program from Win 3.1 to 95 to 98 and now they want it on XP. The program works great no problems installing until I try to print then it just stops. This program only gives me the option for dot matrix printers and I am using ink jets connected with USB. It will print on ink jet printers on a 95 or 98 machine using a parallel cable. Any documentation for this program is long gone and the company that wrote it are gone and left no forwarding address. Anybody have an idea for me? Thanks

Most DOS pased programs which access the hardware directly wont run properly on Win XP and yours seems to be one of those. Win XP uses ntvdm ( virtual do machine ) to run dos programs, it cant execute then directly.

Thus the best bet for you is to use old win 98 and 95 because I doubt that things will work anyway on win XP

I think there may be an addon driver called DOSPRINT that captures the output stream and directs it to the Windows driver. I came across it several months ago but I haven't tried it.

If you can have your app running on XP, then Printfil can help you.

Using Printfil you can print your DOS jobs to ANY Windows printer, including USB, GDI, networked and virtual (faxmodems, PDF writers and so on).

In addition, you can automatically obtain a graphical print preview, colorize the text, merge BMP files (logos etc.), choose the Windows font, set orientation, copies and other useful things.

A free trial is available for download at http://www.guolo.com/printfil

If you need help on configuring your DOS app. to works with Printfil, don't hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
Davide Guolo
