Subject: Printer PC connection
OS: Boots to DOS 5.0 off C:
CPU/Ram: 8088-10 / 640k
Model/Manufacturer: Nan Tan My P.C DTK Mth Br
Comment:
Attatched a Panasonic KX-P1180 Dot Matrix Printer via parallel port to computer.
In the DOSSHELL open editor with autoexec.bat displayed.
Click on print and print window opens and click radio button for Complete Doc.
The computer waits perhaps 90 seconds with "waiting on printer 00001.001" at the bottom of the DOSSHELL and then a window opens "Disk not Ready".
Pressing on help it says "the disk drive door is open or no disk is in the drive ".
From the DOS prompt C:\> copy autoexec.bat LPT1:
After a wait of perhaps 90 secs get "not ready writing device LPT1"
Hit f for fail and get "fail on INT24-LPT1"
Running MSD have under the various headings
TSR Programs PRINT
Device Drivers PRN
LPT Ports 1 LPT1
Ack No
Port Add 0378.H
On Line Yes
Paper Out No
I/O Out No
Time out No
Busy Yes
IRQ7 address 0070-06F4
detected Yes
Handled system area
The parallel port is on an adapter insert attached by ribbon cable to a riser off the mother board.
The floppy drive is also attached to the same riser card.
The printer has been tested on a MS DOS 6.22 system and works okay.
The print screen keyboard button does not activate the printer on the Nan Tan nor does Ctrl+P or CTRL+Print Screen seem to have any effect.
Pleas advise what I am missing to get the printer working.

Does the floppy work on that riser?

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

M2 As reported in the thread a few below the floppy is going great now after a good clean.
Used it to format a 360k disk. Took the disk to a DOS 6.22 machine and copied MSD to it. Returned to Nan Tan and it ran msd like a rocket to give results for this thread.

You may need to check the jumpers on the printer. Also if you exit dosshell what happens if you do a SHIFT+PRINTSCREEN?

Further to DAVEINCAPS' suggestion try:
copy Autoexec.BAT LPT1:
or
copy Autoexec.BAT PRN:

Thanks all for replies.
Unfortunately drive C: packed up and unless I can pick up another hard drive, sadly, it may be the end of Nan Tan.
