I have an old 486 with win3.1. When I try to boot I get message "press a key to reboot". If I try to go into setup it ask for password, which it has never done before. If I use a boot disk I still get same message "press a key to reboot". Can anyone help?
C:\DOS> It's possible that in your bios settings you have the boot sequence "c only" and you also may have you hard drive disabled. This may have occured if your cmos battery has been removed, or is dead.
They say that to bypass the AWARD BIOS password it's "shift+s y x z". I've never tried this though. You can do a simple search in google for "bios password" and find sites to help you there. Bad command or file name C:\DOS>_

You may have to reset the CMOS on the motherboard. There are three equally spaced pins for this usually marked password or CMOS reset. To reset you move the jumper to the other pin--the jumper is always on the center pin obviously. You leave the jumper on the other pin five seconds or so. Then you move it back to the normal position. (Because you are shorting out the battery when you reset, do not leave the pin on the reset position)
