I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO DO THIS I AM TRYING TO MY COMPUTER DUE TO THE FACT THAT I AM TRYING TO KEEP MY SISTER OFF MY COMPUTER SHE LIKES TO CHANGE THINGS ON IT. I HAVE A COMPAQ PRESARIO MODEL # 7922 IF YOU CAN HELP ME IN ANYWAY I WOULD BE GRATEFUL.

wierd i understood more about the post from the subject than from the message content.

you need to get into the bios somehow (press del or f2 or f10 etc) to reach the bios after a reset. there should be an option to set the system password, either on entering the bios or on switching on the machine.

But seriously, common BIOS manufacturers and corresponding keystrokes to enter setup:

Award: Ctrl+Alt+Esc or Del
Phoenix: Ctrl+Alt+S or Ctrl+Alt+Esc
AMI: Del
Zenith: Ctrl+Alt+Ins
IBM: Ctrl+Alt+Ins, F1, or Reference Diskette
Compaq: F1 or F10
Dell: Ctrl+Alt+Enter or Del
NEC: F1 or F10

Many ComPaq Laptops use a System Disk to change settings or to set bootup password. Do a search on www.compaq.com to find drivers & utitities available for your model.

i have a ibm thinkpad 755c and i need a power on password,i cant get any further than the 2 beeps and then it gives me the padlock symbol and i have to enter a password that i have forgetton, is there someone out there that can help me. if so email me please
