Reply: (edit)No DOS drivers needed. Be sure you have an XP boot disk (floppy), unless of course your machine has a bootable CD-ROM drive. The WinXP boot disk will have generic CD-ROM drivers on it to allow you to install the OS. -Doug

Reply: (edit)DOS doesn't exist in XP. Have you tried posting this in the XP forum? Enter your bios and change the boot sequence to CDROM, A, C and boot the machine. It will boot from the cd. I'm not sure if it will give you the ability to format as I've only removed XP from two friends machines and installed 98SE, never installed it (XP) or even looked at the contents of the cd. Alternatively, you could use a 98 or 98SE boot disk and boot with that, and format the drive. But, not sure about that either as the 98 O/S boot disk might not "see" the partition for XP. Sorry, I've never messed with NTFS file systems, only removed them with fdisk. But, there's some ideas anyway. Good luck.

Reply: (edit)OK, now I see I am not an expert in installing new windows (and certainly not XP) .. but you will need the DOS CDROM drivers before you can install ANY system using a CDROM as source As said, I am not sure at all, but I would suggest to have a bootable disc (floppy or cdrom) close which is able to start your whenevr you should get stuck maybe you have to format c:, and still using DOS, copy the XP disc to your harddrive, boot from some minimal setup system, and lauch your installation from harddisk better check this with 'experts' on the domain, I am just guessing
