Reply: (edit)post your message on the win9x group. I am not sure but if you delete your win.ver file you should be able to install 98 on top of 95. ace

Reply: (edit)You have just discovered the major flaw with Win95. If you didn't install DOS6.22 on your system before installing Win95, and you pressed the Revert To Old DOS option, it hoses your operating system. You have 2 options at this point, Re-nstall Win95 or wipe the hard drive clean by formatting it, then do a fresh install of Win98.

Reply: (edit)You can go here and download my bootdisk boot disk with CD support and format with that or, go into your BIOS and set it to boot to the CD ROM first. Then put in your Win98 CD, boot to it, and I believe it gives you the option to format and install Windows. Sorry, I'm a little rusty with the Win98 install (it's been a while) but I'm sure someone else here can help with the details.

Reply: (edit)It's been a really long time since I have had to support Win95 with this error so I'm kinda rusty, but I believe it is possible. You will need to set your BIOS to boot from CD ROM. Then put in your Win95 CD. It should give the option to re-install Win95. But before you do this, If there is any way to take out your drive and take it to a working machine and install it as a second drive, please do so. This way you can copy any important data to a working machine, just in case.

Reply: (edit)Well now that I think about it, the Win95 CD may not be bootable (I told you I was a little rusty). You may have to boot up with the boot disk supplied with the Win95 CD. If you don't have one, you can make one with a working Win95 system, or use the bootdisk I offered in my previous post.

Reply: (edit)You could also try using a Win 95 boot disk to sys the C: drive. If it hasn't been formatted, boot w/ the floppy and type; sys c: at the A:\ prompt. You should know beforehand though which version of 95 was on there so you use the proper boot disk. Just to make sure. I'm rusty on this as well.

Reply: (edit)If all the files (you want to keep) still on the drive can reinstall windows95 back into system at c:\windows by putting in a BOOT disk that can load up the CD-ROM as well(win98 makes a good one that uses ram drive and works with win95 ok-so get copy of a pal)you go to cd drive D:\ ? with win95b CD in it -and type SETUP.When asks where to install-change c:\windows.000 to c:\windows(the origonal folder)-this will put w95 back
