Specs: DR-DOS 7.03 trying to install on a new system (1.0 gHz, 128MB RAM), formerly a Window 98SE platform.
After repartitioning hard drive with DR-DOS install disks and then installing the new OS, I get an error on first boot up saying;
"EMM386.EXE has detected an error caused by a fault in one of the device drivers or programs loaded in the system."
After removing DEVICE= statements one at a time, I find that removing the line;
"DEVICE=C:\DRDOS\EMM386.exe DPMI=OFF FRAME=NONE"
I can boot to a c: prompt. Is this because of EMM386.EXE? or perhaps the DPMI and FRAME options? I am not up to speed on this stuff. Any help?

Hmmmm. It might be because you have over 64 megabytes of RAM. That's just a guess though, memory management isn't my strongpoint. Maybe you should ask W0rm, he's pretty good with memory.

By the way, when I go into CONFIG.SYS and take out the EMM386.exe line and add a HIMEM.SYS line, I get an okay boot up, but it says;
"HIMEM.SYS: Warning: Address line A20 already enabled.
HIMEM.SYS 2.34"then continues to boot up as normal. Don't know if this info helps, but I thought it might. Thanks.

When I get stuck, I head on over and bug these folks: DR-DOS Forum. They have gotten me out of more than a few jams.

It's been a long time since I've used DR DOS, but in MS-DOS, frame=0 is known to cause problems on occasion.
