Comment: I have a Toshiba Libretto that has crashed, and no longer can run Win95, can only run DOS. The floppy drive no longer works. I need to somehow transfer files between it and my Win95 desktop. I can't run a program on the laptop, can only use DOS, mode and copy commands to send my files to COM1. Is there a program that will receive any type of file being sent in this manner? And also, is there any way to (once I have saved important files and then re-formatted the laptop), to send a program over to enable me to re-install Win95 via my desktop?

Reply: (edit) As long as you have mode.com on your laptop, you can use interlnk/intersvr on another machine. (Or if you happen to have intersvr on the laptop already, all the better.) If you don't have intersvr.exe on the laptop, you can connect the laptop to a PC using a 7-wire (not just three) null modem cable via the serial ports (parallel won't work for this). Then type "intersvr /rcopy" on the desktop. It will instruct you to type mode comx...... on the laptop. If you follow the procedure, intersvr will copy itself on to the laptop and you'll then have full access to the laptop's drives from the desktop PC. I've done this, and it works just fine, once you get over the hurdle of figuring out where evrything is connected. It's my understanding that the same procedure can be used with fastlink, fxlink, or whatever it's called.

Reply: (edit) If possible, I would avoid formatting, and see if I couldn't just reinstall Windows. If you really wanted to do a format without adding any hardware, I suppose you could set up a small ramdisk, copy the command files to it, log on to the ramdisk and format/s c:, and then copy the minimum files back on to C:. You should then be sure to include in these executables, whatever PC interconnection software you are using. Also, it would be a good idea to set comspec=the command.com on your ramdisk, and to set the path to the ramdisk's directory where you stored the command files.

Reply: (edit)You can use FastLynx or LapLink for DOS on 2 Bootdisks, That way you will not need any files to be on PC, or load them onto harddrive if you have access to to it. Get them from my resource site by clicking on homepage link above.
