I have a set of disks used to back up files in 1993. I think they were backed up using PC-DOS. I tried to restore them with W2000, W3.1, MS-DOS 5.0 and MS-DOS 6.0. I keep getting the instructions to load the disk and then get the message "files wer backed up on 09-02-1993" then "restoring files from Drive A" Diskett: 01.
Then I get "Source does not contain backup files". Someone said it was a PC-DOS/MS-DOS issue. There are two foles Backup001 and control001 on the first disk. is there a utility out there??? Thanks

PC DOS 6.1 and above use the Central Point backup utility CPBACKUP. Maybe that backup disk were made with it.
Previous versions of PC DOS use BACKUP/RESTORE, I think that you shouldn't have any problem if the backup was made with that.
I will try to send you the utility.

I posted the question about restoring an old backup file.

I finally got it to restore.

It was backedup using OS2. I tried PC-DOS 5.00 5.02 and 7.0 NO luck.
I was able to find a copy of OS2 in a set of files that were about to be tossed out at work.
I loaded it up with an old pc and the files restored.
I got them out of the pc with an old HP tape drive DOS software and ran it under windows to bring it into my MS-DOS/Windows PC.

Guys,
I would appreciate any help you could afford to give me on this issue. I have two sets of disks, backed up with Central Point Backup, but not sure which version, only because the files on the disks are labelled: Cpbackup.001 and Cpbackup.inf. Naturally the other disks, within the set, are incremented by 1 in the extension.
My belief is that PC Tools for Windows-version 2.0, or possibly PC Tools for DOS-Vers. 9 could restore these files. So far I have tried on and off for two years, to find a program to restore these files. This night I have worked for over 5 hrs. trying to find a copy of ANYTHING that I can download to try and restore these files.

PS: Sorry--I forgot to include the date on the files I backed up--it was 6/20/96

Hi,

I have the same problem as Jimmy69. My files are called.
Backup.001 Control.001
Backup.002 Control.002
Backup.003 Control.003
...you get the idea.

I've downloaded loads of MS-DOS and Win 3x programs but none of them work.
If anyone can help PLEASE mail me.

Thanks

Scott.

to all those searching for pcdos 2000, when you get to eltumbong's site, it will say it's under construction. IT'S NOT!!!

click on the "click here". it will take you to another page where you can download the disk images. very tricky.
