I have 20 G hard drive and tried to create a primary partition. After formating it, I checked with fdisk and saw no partition has been created. I tried partition Magic and it also can't write any information into partion table. How to fix? Is my hard drive dead? Advises would be very appreciated!
Do you have Norton Utilities? Their 'Diskedit' will let you examine that partition table. It is the first sector on the disk and is called the Master Boot Record(MBR). The 4 partition tables are located at the end of the MBR followed by the BOOT SIGNATURE :
Drive mfgrs. also supply downloadable disk diagnostics. If you want a link to their site, advise the name of the disk mfgr. E-mail me as I won't be back to this post.

Partition magic can create some weird problems when used too often.Try using partition magic to delete everything. Then use FDISK to partition the HD.
