partition problem

i booted from winxp reinstall cd to delete my C: partition. my D: partition automagically renamed itself to C:[DATA]?
how do "free" up the C: again? so i can install windows on it?

First partition is C:. You deleted your first partition so now DATA is the first one. Simply recreate OS partition on the free space of your disk and reboot.

Yeah, it's showing your former D: partition as C: because C: is assigned as the drive letter when there is only one valid partition. Once you reinstall XP in the empty space the drive letters should return to what they were previously.
