Hi, Iam running winxp. I want to partition the HD using "DOS" so i can install another OS on the partition. I know that xp doesnt run on dos anymore but i heard that you can partition the HD still. If it is possible, can someone please explain the procedure or just leave a link to a site that does explain. If not possible, what are the alternatives other than using third party software ie.. Partition Majic ?? Thanks in advance.

Your right about no dos in xp. Don't have it yet. Better then Partition Magic is System Comander. Just get the newest version and make sure it supports xp.I have SC 2000 it it doesn't support xp, but I would have to download the upgrade for it. Check out System Commander's home page on the net. I'm using Win 98, installed twice and DOS all on different partitions. I only use the one Windows, but when it goes up I use the other to remove it and copy the backup back over. Back in business in 10 munutes. This saves from doing a new install. I also use drive D for all of the programs I install in windows, dos game on E, Win games on F. This saves alot of time when defragging. Once all of your programs are installed you hardly ever have to defrag those drives. Only have to defrag drive C this way. Good Luck.....

Boot from the XP CDROM or Boot disks\CDROM and choose Repair and then Repair Console. At the prompt type: diskpart
