Dos machine, after a shutdown, can't find operating system. booted up with startup floppy, the two hard drives can be seen. but keeps saying operating system missing if booted without the system floppy disk. pls help me out!!!!!!

What DOS version was it running ? You may be able to download floppy disks with that version of DOS on them.

First SYS C: from your boot floppy assuming it is the same version of DOS. The most likely cause of your trouble is one or more of your system files--IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS or COMMAND.COM have become corrupt in some way. The SYS command will refresh them on the hard drive.
