Hi to every body
I have on old olivetti 286 that not see hard drive.
I have tryed to install HD on onother old 386 pc and it works well.
Now I suppose that I need setup disk for cmos datas is this correct?
There is somebody that can help me to find this disk?
Many thanks in advance

Hi
‘Shift+Ctrl+Alt+Del’ enters the BIOS.
I think it's been a long time since I had one of these.
I still have the two floppys that came that came with it.
On a Tutorial and the other the system disk which as a customer.bat file on it to test out the hardware.
I send copies of them to you if they are of any use to you.

on bios is just possible set size of hd 1-20mb or 2-40mb but not heads, cyl, sect,I tryed boths but always alarm fixed disk not present came out.
If is possible could you sent to me the copy of the two disk you have?
Dtech10 do you think that other udjustment are needed in the system for see hd? Have you ever tryed to replace hd on your old pc?
Maybe there are some problem on the mother board....?
I have also look for battery but I'm quite sure in not present anywhere. Many thanks

Hi Mauro
I never did anything to my computer, in those days I did,nt know much about them anyway.
The battery I am guessing might be soldered to the motherboard, and looked like a capacitor.
I'll zip the two disks and sent them.
Just a thought what size hard disk are you tying to install, maybe the BIOS can't see anything above 40MB.
Partition it as a 40MB disk and them see if it's recognised by the BIOS.

Not certain of this with your machine but some batteries at that time were rectangle in shape
and the ones I have seen were black about
3/8" x 3/8" x 1 1/2".......might also look close on the silk screening for any indication
of a positive " + " and negative " - " marks to help find it....You might find something here:

Till now not yet, I'm trying to install HD on onother 386 but is not so easy because this pc is used for car brakes test(is of my friend). The program works but I not have comunication with sensor end keyboard that use a strange Xt or ISA board...this the reason because I will hope to use the old 286 hardware ....I think that without setup disk for set correctly parameters of the HD the Pc is definitly died...
