I need some help/advice on running a DOS program by the name of Trinity on a new Win 98 machine. It runs but is extremely sluggish.

Change the properties so it runs in MS DOS Mode. The machine should shut down then resart loading the game. When you exit the game it should restart again loading Windows.

Pure DOS or OS2 should load the program without rebooting. This rebooting is a punishment by MS for using legacy software.
It is 2001 ad after all.

Unfortunately this is not as simple as being a game - it is a real application that a business runs on daily. After doing further research it looks like the program cannot handle the clock speed of the CPU. I am looking into jumper settings but hope someone out there may have another solution that isn't so drastic. Thanks

Alana,

Have you tried running the program in pure DOS mode? Do you absolutely need it to run under windows? You may just want to dedicate a machine to run DOS and that application only if it is very important.

Other things you could try is run the software on another machine. Perhaps there is a problem your windows installation or your hardware configuration that's causing rhe slowdown.

Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

Hi Alana,

I've had a somewhat similar problem and found that loading himem.sys and emm386, or using the dos=high, umb lines in the config.sys made a difference. May be worth a try?
