Subject: old BIOS chip and battery

Comment:
The CMOS battery in this model is encapsulated into the BIOS chip - in quite a thick package. Does anyone have experience of sawing off the top of the package in ordet to replace the battery?

Google for your battery/clock chip. Probably a Dallas ?????. I don't remember it the battery is directly connected to the pins. If so you might be able to bypass the bad battery. People has cut into the plastic but you cannot damage the chip.
