May be Partition Magic is the answer but you have a very high risk of data loss on conversion.Good luck.

Fdisk is the easiest option, and it is free too.

k_semler - how the hell do you use fdisk to convert NTFS to FAT32 without losing everything on the drive ?!

Simple way to use FDISK.
Go out to the internet and do a "google" search for the file <delpart.exe>
put it in the floppy boot disk that has FDISK on it.
Boot to disk and type "delpart.exe" at the command prompt.
go through the motions that come up.

return to the DOS Prompt and then do the
FDISK.

Again, this would delete all the data on the drive, so beware. I hope Dave has everything he wants to keep backed up on CD.

I was not counting keeping of data. If you have XP installed, and want to downgrade to a lower OS such as Windows 98, you would have to format your hard drive anyhow. About the only thing you could "interchange' between the two OSes is the favorites, documents, desktop backrounds, and other items such as these without a major work around. If you wish to keep all the installed programs, you would have to export every registry key for all programs wishing to keep, and then only delete the Windows drirecory. But then you would also have to copy over the start menu entries, and shared DLL's. It would be far similier to Fdisk and restart from scratch, only saving documents, and unreplaceable items. Then again, if it is relpaceable, you should have a backup system in place to avoid data loss anyhow. CDRW media works OK, but for most reliability, use a seperate HDD, and only plug it in to store and retrive backups, or a tape drive, and store it in a *.tar

I have to say the I agree with k_semler. Dave of course should backup any DATA he wants to keep, but I read the message the same way, in that he wants to convert the drive only. He does not say he wants to keep XP. Come on Dave let us know what you really want?

hey, I don't want any backup from my Hdd which is NTFS. I want to repart it right from the begenning. But, one of my partitian which has winxp is NTFS and the rest of the 5 partitians are Fat32. I am gona FDISK it with win98 bootdisk. But, its not showing the drive which is NTFS even in nondos partitians. What am I suppose to do, if I go ahead and delete all the partitian, like logical and extended partitain without mindding the NTFS eventhogh its hidden, will that space also included after I complete FDISK? I mean, 10 NTFS drive will be gained after completing FDISK, right? eventhogh its not shown anywhere. Is there any way to convert NTFS to FAT32, no matter about the data. I wanna format it and part it from the beginning. Help me buddies,

Raman
