For Owners Of Norton SystemWorks 2001:

Should there be anyone running Norton SystemWorks 2001 on a Windows 9X partition that also runs DOS on another partition and would be interested in adapting the Norton Anti-Virus component of the program to run in DOS, I would be pleased to make such an adaptation, including relevant batch files, available for the asking. The adaptation is made possible simply by tapping the resources already inherent on your Rescue Disk Set, specifically Disks #2 through #4. Using these disks, you supply the program files for use in DOS and the virus definition files that typically you receive to update the Rescue Disk Set. After updating the Rescue Disk Set with new definitions for Windows 9X, you use the same disks to update the DOS definition directory. Each time as a first step, you DELTREE the old definition directory and a batch file recreates the directory and copies up-to-date definitions to the new directory. What you have, for all intent and purposes, is an up-to-date-version of NAV for DOS.

The general approach to this adaptation was suggested to me by Symantec tech support itself some weeks ago as I had inquired publically about current DOS versions of their anti-virus software. Such versions no longer exist, of course. Let me know if you are interested and I'll be as helpful as I can in getting you started.
