After major problems with explorer error messages and computer not starting up and ME boot disks coming up as invalid system disks, I can now boot from a windows 98 CD. I can get to dos that way & have tried
booting to CDRom without CD support, but when I get in to dos, the only commands it accepts are dir (all 3 drives) & copy. Everything else - sys, restore, even format just comes up with bad command or file name.
Any ideas what I should do next? By the way, system restore is turned off in windows due to major probs we were having with it.
thanks
Kaz

Maybe this is because these commands are external.

and bootable cd that u r using does it contain these commands???

i think not. try to use this command to check whether your commands are available or not..?

1) dir format.* /s

2) dir sys.* /s

3) dir restore.*

if not available i mean still bad command or filename then try to copy those commands from some where else..

let me know if u have still errors

When you boot with a Windows 98 boot disk to windows me you have a path problem.
You are trying to run files in C:\Windows and in C:\Windows\Command which is ME with a Windows 98 Command.com in memory.
One solution is to make a temp directory on C: and copy some Windows 98 files to it. Just enter Path=A:;C:\TEMP;(and whatever letter the ramdrive is) and you should no longer have the problem.
Or are you running Windows 98? Boot with the version you have on the hard drive and SYS C:
