No sound in DOS with EPoX motherboard.

Hello all. I have a computer with the EPoX EP-3VBA motherboard that has the Apollo 686a sound chipset.
I need to know how to make this stubborn thing work in DOS.
I have tried both VIA and Creative SB Pro sound drivers and the speakers will not make a sound. The onboard audio is also on and set properly.
