hi ya all, I have a P3(731Mhz) system wit 192 MB of RAM and 20Gb HDD wit Dos as the os(Its a lil strange but i love DOS) and i used to use Arachne to browse the Net(Using Dialup) but now i jave got hbroadband(ADSL) and i am not able to get connected to the Net. I have a Realtek 8139 NIC Network card and i really dunno how to Configure Arachne to Use this Card.So please Help me!!

Loading the Packet-Driver is no challenge but mine is `RTSPkt.COM v3.18' from the "600" package and i won't be surprized if there's a newer release, the trick is configuring the Waterloo TCP environment: you'll find a link to it on page 6 of the DOS site (www.smashco.com/wattcp.asp) mentioned above. The Arachne Wizard can detect a pre-configured packet- driver but i never even cared to check if it would be able to install one itself and i use many other pieces of Waterloo TCP compatible SoftWare anyway.
WATTCP is not needed or required period, Arachne already has the IP Stacks.
You go to the link I posted download the and unpack the zip file and from this you copy over the Packet Driver as explained by following the first link. You can either manually load the PD or use AUTOEXEC.BAT to auto run.
Then Arachne needs to be reconfigured to accept a DHCP connection..............

My answer to the last two questions is no and yes, respectively. The statement isn't that a Waterloo TCP environment is necessary but i intend to point out that Arachne's GUI Wizard simply won't support it and that's a shame because the newbies would be better served if they could also have use of Lynx, {Commo} or MS-Kermit + RLFossil, etc. Compared to the default TelNet add-on in Arachne, MS-Kermit is transfering .ZIP files at 30-45 Kcps (depending on the interface used - e.g. internal vs RLFossil) if running on a P1-200 Mhz while that Arachne default TelNet application has no support for transfers at all and Arachne itself crawls at a mere 8K5 cps!!!
This is only one example but i can be wrong when i post pre-emptively, guessing that users appreciate alternatives. I hardly resist my urge to share...
Pardon me for asking you if Arachne is able to set WatTCP right, i wasn't trying to be competitive...
As for DHCP, i'm out of luck because i'm not using it on my DOS-friendly ADSL MoDem/Router right now!
