Pentium 166- Windows95 locked up. Hard d was filled up. Run scandisk, half way through it locked up, so I shut system down. When started again there is no C prompt. It gives error messages IDE Device Error and 6901-5c Integrated Lan Error. How can C drive be repaired.?

Take the lid off the PC and examine the IDE Lead. Make sure that it is fitted securely at both ends.
Next, try Swapping leads with the secondary IDE channel. See if that makes a difference.
6901-5c Integrated LAN Error - Is this given in DOS or Windows. If in DOS, then this is likely to be a BIOS error. Check the settings in the BIOS to see if you have activated anything to do with "Power on LAN Activity".
Try removing the D: and booting normally. Run Scandisk and see if this will work (note: try booting to DOS with a disk and running Scandisk. DOS is more reliable and less likely to crash)

Hi Jon you mention that your HD was full if this was the case it would explain why scandisk locked up, boot up your machine from boot disk and delete some files off your hard disk to free up conventional memory space and temp memory space.
Also DO YOU HAVE A NETWORK ???????
